ASTM Signs MOUs with Haiti and Sierra Leone Standards Bodies

The national standards bodies of Haiti and Sierra Leone have recently signed memorandums of understanding with ASTM International.

ASTM International has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Bureau Haïtien de Normalisation. The MOU was signed in June by Michèle B. Paultre, director, BHN, and James A. Thomas, president, ASTM International.

The primary objectives of BHN are to produce and implement Haitian standards for production and trade; train staff regarding standards; create and manage signs, labels and certifications of product quality; represent the country in international institutions of product standardization and organize/coordinate programs for metrology and certification.

The MOU between ASTM and the Sierra Leone Standards Bureau was signed by James Saio Dumbuya, executive director, SLSB, and Thomas, in July. The mission of SLSB is to contribute to the enhancement of the quality of life for people living in Sierra Leone through the promotion of standardization.

Initiated in 2001, ASTM International's MOU program promotes communication between ASTM and national standards bodies worldwide, fostering awareness of the standardization systems of all parties involved. More information about the MOU program can be found on the ASTM International website.
