Collodial Silica

A proposed ASTM standard could help engineers and architects increase the strength and durability of concrete by using colloidal silica.

Specifically, according to ASTM member Jon Belkowitz, "this new standard could increase the durability of hydraulic cement concrete to resist the nature of physical and chemical attack over time." Belkowitz, head of research and development at Intelligent Concrete, notes that the standard could help create concrete mixtures that have a longer service life without compromising the finished product.

The primary users of the specification (WK53768, New Specification for Colloidal Silica) will be contractors, concrete providers, government agencies, architects, and others in the construction industry.

Subcommittee C09.24 on Supplementary Cementitious Materials, part of ASTM International Committee C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates, invites anyone to contribute to the development of the standard.
