Hydrogen Fuel for Fuel Cell Vehicles

A proposed new ASTM International standard, WK34574, Test Methods for Determination of Organic Halides, Total Non-Methane Hydrocarbons and Formaldehyde in Hydrogen Fuel by Gas Chromatography (GC) and Mass Spectrometry (MS), will be used to monitor the quality of hydrogen fuel for fuel cell vehicles. WK34574 is being developed by Subcommittee D03.14 on Hydrogen and Fuel Cells, part of ASTM International Committee D03 on Gaseous Fuels.

The procedure in WK34574 will be used by laboratories to analyze hydrogen fuel quality for fuel cell vehicles to satisfy the requirements of SAE J2719, Hydrogen Fuel Quality for Fuel Cell Vehicles. The proposed test method will allow users to monitor formaldehyde and each hydrocarbon compound at one part per billion.

All interested parties are invited to join in the standards developing activities of Committee D03.
