Symposium on 100 Years of Metallography Standards

ASTM International’s Committee on Metallography (E04) is sponsoring the Symposium on Commemorating 100 Years of E04 Development of Metallographic Standards, Nov. 15-16, 2017, at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. The symposium will take place in conjunction with the November standards development meetings of the committee.

The symposium will focus on various topics related to metallographic examination, evaluation and characterization of microstructure using all possible characterization technologies, particularly those described by ASTM Committee E04 in its metallographic test methods.

The symposium will feature papers on:

  • Specimen preparation for LOM, SEM, TEM, EBSD, FIB, STEM, XRD, etc.,
  • Characterization of microstructure by LOM, SEM, TEM, EBSD, FIB, STEM, XRD, etc.,
  • Etching techniques for general structure, grain size, evaluation or phase discrimination,
  • Non-metallic inclusion identification, quantification and effect on properties,
  • Micro-indentation hardness testing,
  • Image analysis measurement of microstructure,
  • Studies relating to ASTM, ISO, or other national standards on metallography, and more.

Online registration will close on November 8, 2017. Registration questions can be directed to Tessa Sulkes. For technical information or questions, contact the symposium chairman George Vander Voort.
