ASTM WK81114
New Practice for Additive Manufacturing — Standard Practice — Design Process of Additive Construction Elements
1. Scope
1. This practice is intended to specify data collection methods and data exchange formats between different design stages. 2. This practice provides guidelines for design approvals throughout the design process. 3. This practice is intended to specify data exchange formats and conversion standards between formats to ensure data conformity throughout the design process. 4. This practice addresses the performance assessment of 3D-printed building elements by means of digital simulation. 5. This practice specifies manufacturing and quality requirements that should be provided during the design process. 6. This practice is not intended to overwrite any Building Code requirements. Keywords

We would like to propose initial design practices to standardize interfaces which will allow architects, engineers and approval agencies to go through design iterations faster and without any data losses. This practice is intended to define the design process of building components produced by additive manufacturing (AM) means and methods. It is focused on practical implementation of engineering design methods used in AM together with design methods commonly used in the construction industry. This practice will allow architects and engineers to have clear interfaces to accelerate design iterations and define requirements for utilizing AM construction technology. The principles in this practice will be applicable to both design and production processes. Design development and production process development for 3D-printed building components are interrelated and therefore the design of the production process should incorporate knowledge from the design development.
