ASTM WK86401
Revision of F1137/F1137M-19 Standard Specification for Phosphate/Oil Corrosion Protective Coatings for Fasteners
Rationale
(1) Need to add verbiage that salt spray test results are not valid after activities such as sorting, bulk packaging, etc. (2) ASTM F1470 is invoked in two places, section 6 (Sampling) and section 8 (Inspection). Section 6 states "The purchaser may request samples in accordance with Practice F1470", while section 8 states "Samples shall be taken in accordance with Practice F1470." Per the ASTM blue book on form and style, section B19.2, "technical requirements on inspection such as sampling plan" should not be placed in the inspection section of an ASTM specification. Sampling per ASTM F1470 should be a requirement (not an option) to align with other specifications in F16.03 (such ASTM F1941/F1941M). (3) Need to add a sampling standard for inspecting thread fit after phosphating. (4) Need to add verbiage that states phosphate coated fasteners do not require baking for hydrogen embrittlement relief. (5) Need to add summary of revision.
