ASTM WK90594
Currently, no testing methodologies exist to characterize the interaction and performance of internal replacement pipe (IRP) technologies installed within existing pipelines in response to typical field loading scenarios such as live traffic loads and parallel adjacent excavations. Within this project a set of interconnected test methods will be developed which describe requirements and methods of testing for cyclical external loading, in both the lateral and axial directions, performed to evaluate the estimated service life of internal replacement pipe (IRP) technologies installed within existing pipelines for pipeline renewal purposes. Specific testing parameters (e.g., imposed displacements) are calculated based on IRP geometry and material properties based on existing research. The proposed test methods standard will also contain an appendix wherein previous research is linked to the details of the proposed testing parameters for various IRP’s and host pipe combinations.
