Rationale
: In keeping with this charter, the task group has been directed to develop a standard practice for all common aspects of the design of Adventure Attractions.
In recognition of the nature of the communities involved in the development and operation of these attractions, every attempt has been made to present a clear, concise, and self-contained standard thus minimizing the number of documents required and providing direct control over the content thereof. Further, in order to create a more user-friendly experience requirements that consist of large blocks of specific information have been placed in Annexes thus improving the readability of the document.
Adventure Attractions consist of a broad range of physically challenging experiences in which the patron plays an integral part in the control of the elements comprising the attraction and thereby creates, with varying degrees of freedom, an experience unique to the patron. This Standard Practice was developed to enhance the safety of the vast array of Adventure Attractions ranging from gravity coasters, zip-lines, and challenge courses to bungee jumping, trampoline courts, and whatever comes next by providing overall guidance for the design and analysis of attractions whose risk and control depend on communication of design intent, level of difficulty, and the physical and mental capabilities the designers anticipated the patrons would possess and exercise.
This standard is intended to be utilized in conjunction with the specialty standards developed for each particular adventure attraction such as Mountain Coasters, Aerial Adventures, Adventure Challenge Attractions, Trampoline Courts, Bungee Jumping, etc
