ASTM WK93427

Revision of D7329-07(2024) Standard Specification for Food Preparation and Food Handling (Food Service) Gloves

Rationale

To review the current specifications in D7329 for food service gloves and to collect data to support changes to the specification where needed e.g. AQL, thickness, etc. • unaware of any manufacturers or brands that follow or claim conformity to this standard. It has 2 issues: o Jim is correct on the thickness. For nitrile gloves (little NRL in Food) it is all about weight these days. About the limit of weight where thickness can meet 0.05mm minimum is 3.0-3.2 grams size medium. 2.8g, even 2.5g are common. The gloves perform fine as the tensile of such gloves is 30++ MPa. This is the issue with the medical nitrile as well, if you made a glove that was at the bottom of the ASTM specs (14 MPa and 0.05mm thickness) it would not even be donnable w/o tearing. o The barrier is 2.5 AQL, and the market is universally AQL 4.0. • FDA CDRH does not recognize any ASTM food glove standards
