New Coal and Coke Members in China Receive Training

The collaborative D05 group in China elected the following leadership: Gao Xiang (sixth from left) as chairman, Huang Jin (eighth from left) and Wu Tao (far left) as vice chairmen, and Xu Dian as secretary (far right).

The ASTM China office staff conducted a training session for new Chinese members of Committee D05 on Coal and Coke on Jan. 9. The day-long training occurred in conjunction with the annual meeting of the All-China Environment Federation – Technology and Standards for Environmental Protection Professional Research Committee.

Liu Fei, ASTM's chief representative in China, delivered a keynote address regarding the formation of this collaborative group, the responsibilities, duties and benefits of ASTM membership and the rewards of participation. Approximately 60 participants, including officials from government, institutes, universities and companies attended.

Nancy Hu, operations manager for ASTM in China, provided a presentation that emphasized involvement in committee standards development and demonstrated the electronic tools, available on the ASTM website, that facilitate remote participation.

The newly trained group has identified leaders to assist in collaborating with Committee D05 and plans to send representatives to the committee's May 13-15 meetings.

ASTM signed a letter of cooperation with ACEF in August 2010.
