Codes and Standards Developers to Align Green Building Documents

Groups that develop codes and standards for green buildings are collaborating to align three major documents: the International Green Construction Code, the ANSI/ASHRAE/IES/USGBC Standard 189.1 (Standard for the Design of High Performance Green Buildings), and the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building rating program. The goal is a single regulatory tool and a more sustainable built environment.

World Standards Day Paper Competition Open Through July 24

Submissions are due July 24 for this year's World Standards Day paper competition. Co-sponsored by SES (Society for Standards Professionals) and the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day Planning Committee, the competition focuses on standards and their use. Authors may, but are not required to, address the 2015 theme, "Standards - The World's Common Language." The contest is open to anyone employed by a U.S.-based organization and working in the United States. Three cash prizes will be awarded, and the winning papers will be published in the SES journal, Standards Engineering.

Standards Portal Coming for U.S.-Brazil Trade

A portal to support U.S.-Brazil trade will be developed by the American National Standards Institute with Brazil's national standards organization (Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas) and its National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality. The standards portal will be a free online resource to increase trade, investment and technical exchange. To learn more about the plan, email ANSI.

Wood Adhesion Short Course Coming in August

On Aug. 11-12, the 13th Wood Adhesion Short Course will be held at the Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center in Blacksburg, Virginia. The course will introduce the basic concepts of adhesion and then build on the concepts with specific attention to wood.

World Standards Week Slated for Late September

World Standards Week is Sept. 28-Oct. 2 in Washington, D.C., and the U.S. celebration of World Standards Day will be Oct. 1. World Standards Day, which recognizes the role of the standards community, is celebrated around the globe. This year's theme, "Standards - The World's Common Language," recognizes how standards help with communication, business and collaboration worldwide.
