Rationale

This standard is up for a 5 year review. Section 3.1 is being revised to meet the Terminology requirements of the Form and Style Guidelines, Section E. References to A1058 are also being removed since this standard already references A370. Section 2.5, Footnote 5, Section 16.1 and Section 17.2 are being modified to require the use of the STI document Methods to Check Dimensional Tolerances on Hollow Structural Sections in order to clarify the standard dimensional measurement methods. This requirement has already been added to A500. In Section 10 the phrase Cone Flare is being replaced with Flaring Test since that term is used in other ASTM Tubing Standard such as A500. A hyphen was added to 1.1 regarding high-strength so that it matches the title. A requirement to mark the heat number on the tubing was added to 19.1 to reflect standard industry practice. Only Sections 1.1, 2.1, 2.5, 3.1, 3.1.1, 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 10 (Title) 10.5, 16.1, 17.2 and 19.1 are up for ballot. The rest of this standard has been provided for reference.
