ASTM WK93021
Modified design has already been allowed in some municipalities and ASTM standard is lagging behind. Modified design saves 80% on cost for materials and labor, and in operation saves money for middle-income or low-income people. It will allow many who cannot afford a masonry heater (at about $37,000) to switch from fossil fuel heat to renewables and use 70-90% less wood than a conventional wood stove. Like masonry heaters, the design does not need to be smoldered over night to keep occupants warm, nor does it need a rare metal catalyst. Metal-skin design can be built by lower-skilled builders. The design is safer than conventional wood stoves as it burns up smoke and produces negligible creosote. Changing this standard will remove obstacles for many people, and help people reduce energy usage and emissions, treat our planet better, and keep the world safer for all people both present and future.
