William Miner, of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations, Is Among Speakers

ASTM International co-sponsored a briefing for congressional staff and members of the U.S. Congress on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., on March 29. The purpose of the briefing was to highlight building initiatives for reducing the consumption of resources at diplomatic facilities while enhancing security. As iconic symbols of American diplomacy, U.S. embassies are subject to a range of security and terrorist threats.

One of the several speakers at the briefing was William Miner, director of design and engineering for the U.S. Department of State's Office of Overseas Buildings Operations. Miner is charged with ensuring high-performance facilities that represent American values and the best in American architecture, engineering, sustainability and craftsmanship.

The briefing was held in conjunction with the High-Performance Building Congressional Caucus Coalition of the U.S. Congress, which is cochaired by U.S. Representatives Russ Carnahan (D-Mo.) and Judy Biggert (R-Ill.).
