ASTM Executives Visit China

James Thomas, president, ASTM International, and Katherine Morgan, executive vice president, ASTM, visited China from June13-16. The purpose of the trip was to strengthen relations with Chinese industries, standards circles and government officials and to encourage and enhance recognition, cooperation and active involvement in ASTM standards development.

While in China, the ASTM executives attended the opening of meetings of ASTM Committee F24 on Amusement Rides and Devices in Shanghai. In addition, Thomas and Morgan visited met with officials from several standardization organizations in China:

  •  Shanghai Institute of Metrology and Testing (SIMT);
  •  SINOPEC’s Shanghai Research Institute of Petrochemical Technology;
  •  Standardization Administration of China (SAC);
  •  Shanghai Institute of Standardization (SIS);
  •  China National Institute of Standardization (CNIS);
  •  China Civil Aviation Administration (CAAC); and,
  •  China Standardization Press (CSP).

On June 15, Thomas met with Shihong Tian, administrator, Standardization Administration of China. Topics discussed during Thomas and Morgan’s visit to SAC included the 12-year cooperation between SAC and ASTM, China’s standardization reform and potential international standards development.

 

On June 16, Thomas and Morgan visited the China National Institute of Standardization. They presented an appreciation plaque to Licong Ma, president, CNIS (center), and his staff at the China National Standards Library.
