ASTM Participates in APEC-ASEAN Conference
ASTM International participated in a conference held jointly by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations on Sept. 11-13. The conference, titled "Green Buildings and Green Growth: Approaches to Encouraging a Positive Green Building Climate," took place at the Building and Construction Authority Academy facility in Singapore. The conference was attended by 140 people from across the region and gave participants opportunities to discuss the opportunities and challenges of green building in the Asia-Pacific region.
During the APEC-ASEAN conference, Robert Brooks, a member of ASTM International Committee E60 on Sustainability and other ASTM committees, spoke on the fundamental role of terminology in the sustainable construction of commercial buildings. Brooks specifically spoke about ASTM standard E2114, Terminology for Sustainability Relative to the Performance of Buildings. Joining Brooks in this session were Jeffrey Stone, principal, Stone Resource Systems Inc., and a member of E60 and E06 on Performance of Buildings; and Yoshiaki Ichikawa, chief engineer, Environmental Promotion Center, Hitachi, Japan. The session was moderated by Henry Wong, vice president, Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute.
In addition, Liu Fei, ASTM's chief representative in China, moderated a session called "Economies' Implementation of Green Buildings Policies and Programs." This session included speakers from Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Mexico, Singapore and South Korea talking about building activities in their countries.
