Hidekatsu Aoki, technical staff, and Seiji Mitani, senior chief, of the Product Safety Technology Center, National Institute of Technology and Evaluation in Tokyo, Japan, met with ASTM staff members Katharine Morgan, vice president of technical committee operations, and Leonard Morrissey, director, TCO, on Oct. 19 at ASTM headquarters. Discussion focused on consumer product safety standards, the role of standards in regulation and conformity assessment and emerging hazards for children's products. This meeting strengthened the relationship formed between ASTM International and NITE when ASTM staff visited NITE headquarters in Tokyo in 2009.
