ASTM Sponsors Chemical Engineering Major for WISE Program
Hattie Larson, a chemical engineering major in her third year at Florida State University, will be sponsored by ASTM International for the 2010 Washington Internships for Students of Engineering program. Larson will focus on a topic in the area of renewable and alternative energies.
Larson has experience in research about X-ray crystallographic analysis as a freshman. Recently elected vice president of her university's student chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Larson is an active member of Tau Beta Pi at Florida State and is an ASTM student member.
The WISE program gives eligible engineering students an opportunity for a paid summer internship in Washington, D.C. During the program, interns learn how government officials make decisions on complex technological issues and how engineers can contribute to legislative and regulatory public policy.
In addition to ASTM International, other sponsors of the WISE program are:
- American Association of Engineering Societies;
- American Institute of Chemical Engineers;
- American Nuclear Society;
- American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers;
- American Society of Mechanical Engineers;
- Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers; and
- SAE International.
