ASTM Staff Highlights Benefits of Standards Development Partipation for Students

The 2014 conference of the International Cooperation for Education about Standardization was held Aug. 14 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The focus of the conference, titled Developing Standards Professionals Across Borders, focused on continuing education about standardization throughout a professional's career.

James Olshefsky, ASTM's director, external relations, presented during a poster session at the conference. The ASTM poster was titled "ASTM International, Providing a Pathway Between Experienced and Emerging Leaders." The poster noted that active participation in standards development organizations such as ASTM offers many opportunities for students to develop career-enhancing skills. Among these skills are building consensus among colleagues and serving as an ambassador for one's organization.

The ICES conference brought together representatives of industry, standards organizations, academia and public authorities to foster an exchange of insights and views on standardization education issues, to raise awareness and to improve the quality of such education for all stakeholders.
