ASTM Visits Lehigh University Student Chapter of Engineers Without Borders-USA

At the invitation of the Lehigh University student chapter of Engineers Without Borders-USA, James Olshefsky, director of external relations, ASTM International, visited the campus in Bethlehem, Pa., to present information about the ASTM resources available for approximately 50 EWB-USA students working on projects in developing countries. The chapter has specific interest in standards from ASTM Committee D19 on Water and standards for technology being developed within Committee E60 on Sustainability.

The EWB-USA mission is to support community-driven development programs worldwide through the design and implementation of sustainable engineering projects, while fostering responsible leadership. The Lehigh EWB-USA chapter has active projects in Honduras, where that country's national standards body, Consejo Hondureño de Ciencia y Tecnología, signed a memorandum of understanding with ASTM in January 2006.
