ASTM Welcomes South Korean Standards Executive
Jong Yoon Jun to Spend 11 Months at ASTM Headquarters
Jong Yoon Jun
Beginning in June, Jong Yoon Jun, assistant director, Korean Agency for Technology and Standards, will spend 11 months as an attachment at ASTM International headquarters in West Conshohocken, Pa.
Jong has worked at KATS since 2006, managing projects pertaining to new technology and its commercialization, manufacturing and international standardization. He has recently been involved with the KATS International Standards Infrastructure Cooperation Program, which is designed to share Korea's experience in the areas of standardization, conformity assessment, legal metrology and testing capability with developing nations as well as with regional and international entities.
During his time at ASTM, Jong will study and work in the following areas:
- Understanding the U.S. standardization system and ASTM's relationships with stakeholders in the public and private sectors;
- Learning about ASTM's initiatives in outreach to developing nations and standardization education;
- Planning for outreach activities in conjunction with the October ASTM board meeting in Seoul, South Korea;
- Developing a curriculum for training standardization experts; and
- Identifying potential ASTM-KATS partnerships for research projects and developing-nation training.
In 2013, ASTM hosted Chang-ae Cho, a researcher in the conformity assessment division of KATS, for a nine-month-long attachment. ASTM and KATS signed a memorandum of understanding in 2006.
