Importance of Standards Emphasized at Class Presentation

ASTM Global Policy Vice President Speaks at Northern Virginia Community College

On April 26 and 28, Professor Peter Pollak's "Introduction to Engineering" class at Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale, Va., learned about the importance of standards through a presentation given by Jeffrey Grove, vice president, global policy and industry affairs, ASTM International. Grove's presentation focused on the strategic use of standards for materials and product safety, quality, interoperability and trade.

Formerly affiliated with the Aluminum Association, Pollak is active in ASTM standards committees such as Committee B07 on Light Metals and Alloys, and in the work of other international standards bodies. Northern Virginia Community College is the largest educational institution in Virginia and the second-largest community college in the United States, comprising more than 75,000 students and 2,600 faculty and staff members. The college is also one of the most internationally diverse in the United States, with a student body consisting of individuals from more than 180 countries.
