ASTM has launched an International Ambassadors initiative.  Through the program, ASTM members who are top experts in their fields will connect with other engineers who want to understand and apply ASTM standards to strengthen their industries and economies.

The first two ambassadors will focus on Latin America and the growing demand for ASTM’s globally-recognized infrastructure standards in that region.

The ambassadors are Delmar Salomon, an asphalt expert who is president of Pavement Preservation Systems; and Cesar Constantino, a concrete expert who is director of business development for Separation Technologies, a Titan America business.

Constantino officially kicked off the International Ambassadors program with a Nov. 24, 2016 presentation during Peruvian Civil Engineering Week in Lima.  The event is hosted by the College of Engineers of Perú, with whom ASTM signed a memorandum of cooperation during a recent roadshow in Latin America.

"I’m excited to share how ASTM standards are supporting new concrete technologies and innovations that help Latin America grow in a smart and sustainable way,” says Constantino. “Just as importantly, I look forward to empowering more technical experts that want to use ASTM standards or contribute to standards development.”

Teresa Cendrowska, ASTM International’s vice president of global cooperation, added, “We’re thrilled that these two leaders – who have extensive experience in ASTM and in the Americas – are our first ambassadors. I have no doubt that they will bring powerful information to fast-growing economies such as Perú, Chile, and Colombia that want to use even more ASTM standards in their infrastructure initiatives.”

More than a dozen of ASTM International’s 100 Memoranda of Understanding agreements worldwide are with Latin American countries.
