New Delhi Building and Construction Standards Workshop Includes ASTM Presentation

ASTM International participated in the Workshop on Building and Construction Standards held in New Delhi, India, on Feb. 12-13. Engineer Muthiah Kasi, P.E., SE CVS, chairman of ASTM International Subcommittee E06.81 on Building Economics, a part of Committee E06 on Performance of Buildings, presented on behalf of ASTM. Speakers from both the United States and India made presentations focusing on technical and regulatory issues, standards and conformity assessment related to building and construction.

The audience, approximately 80 representatives from Indian government and industry, had questions about how ASTM standards support codes and how U.S-based practice can be integrated with Indian standards and practices, particularly for affordable housing and waste management.

ASTM co-sponsored the workshop along with the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, ASHRAE, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the National Fire Protection Assocation and UL;it was organized by the American National Standards Institute, the Bureau of Indian Standards and the Confederation of Indian Industry.
