Outreach: Visits to and from ASTM HQ

Teresa Cendrowska (far left), ASTM International vice president of global cooperation, along with James Olshefsky, ASTM director of external relations (far right), welcomed (from left to right) Engineer Sultan Al-Soghaier, a manager from the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization (SASO); Engineer Usama Ghazali, a SASO standards department manager; and Ahmad Al-Abdullah, a standards engineer at Saudi Aramco. All three men spent time this spring as attachments at ASTM International headquarters.

 

ASTM’s Saudi Arabian attachments visited the ASTM International affiliate, Safety Equipment Institute, in McLean, Virginia, on April 7. From left: James Olshefsky, ASTM director of external relations; Engineer Usama Ghazali,  a standards department manager at the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization (SASO); Pat Gleason, president, SEI; Anna Bowley, SEI program manager; and Engineer Sultan Al-Soghaier, a SASO manager. 

SEI certifies products like equestrian headgear, gear for firefighters and emergency responders, eye and face protection for industrial workers, and more.

 

On March 14, ASTM International staff presented anniversary certificates to memorandum of understanding partner representatives at CROSQ (CARICOM Regional Organization for Standards and Quality). From left are Teresa Cendrowska, vice president of global cooperation; Theodore Reddock, Trinidad and Tobago, celebrating 15 years; Yvonne Hall, Jamaica, celebrating 15 years; Mkabi Walcott, St. Lucia, celebrating 15 years; Ezra Ledger, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, celebrating 10 years; and James Olshefsky, director of external relations.

 

Alistair Klein, ASTM director of European business development, spoke at New Solutions for Industry, a seminar given by ASTM International and the Asociación Española de Normalización y Certificación (AENOR) at AENOR headquarters in Madrid, Spain. Klein spoke along with Pablo Corróns (not pictured), IT services manager, AENOR, about ASTM’s contribution to industry, how to improve competitiveness with AENOR global services, and ASTM’s solutions for managing knowledge. AENOR is Spain’s certification body and now uses ASTM International standards.

 

In April, Nick Ecart (left), ASTM International director of international sales (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), visited the Ministry of Public Works in Kuwait. Responsible for delivering the construction plan for Kuwait, MPW heavily references ASTM standards. With Ecart is Abdullah Duaij Alsabah, assistant undersecretary for planning and development affairs.
