Peru Joins Other South American Countries in Adopting ASTM Amusement Rides Standards
Standards approved by ASTM Committee F24 on Amusement Rides and Devices are becoming an important component in the amusement industry throughout South America. Peru has now adopted five F24 ASTM standards as Peruvian norms and plans to adopt more. The five adopted standards are:
- F893, Guide for Inspection of Amusement Rides and Devices;
- F1159, Practice for Design of Amusement Rides and Devices that Are Outside the Purview of Other F24 Design Standards;
- F1193, Practice for Quality, Manufacture and Construction of Amusement Rides and Devices;
- F1957, Test Method for Composite Foam Hardness-Durometer Hardness; and
- F2374, Practice for Design, Manufacture, Operation and Maintenance of Inflatable Amusement Devices.
ASTM has a memorandum of understanding with INDECOPI, the national standards body of Peru. In addition, ASTM has MOUs with the national standards bodies of Bolivia and Chile, two other South American countries that have adopted F24 standards. Colombia and Brazil also reference F24 standards in their laws.
