Southern Africa Standards Officials Meet with ASTM Staff in Washington, D.C.
The staff of ASTM International's Global Cooperation division met with a delegation from the Southern African Development Community in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 13. The meeting was conducted through the Standards Alliance, which provides capacity building assistance to developing countries, specifically related to implementation of the World Trade Organization Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade. The alliance is funded by U.S. Agency for International Development and managed by the American National Standards Institute.
Delegates from the Malawi Bureau of Standards and the Zambia Bureau of Standards, both ASTM memorandum of understanding partners, welcomed the opportunity to learn firsthand about ASTM and its standardization processes. Representatives of Lesotho and the USAID Southern Africa Trade Hub were part of the training and discussions as well. ASTM participated as a partner in the USAID/ANSI Standards Alliance activities.
