ASTM International held an intensive training program on standards in transportation infrastructure on June 16-27 at ASTM headquarters in West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. The program focused on standards under the jurisdiction of ASTM International Committees D04 on Road and Paving Materials and C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates.

Participants learned how ASTM standards are developed and implemented by industry and government. The program also touched on ASTM's statistical quality assurance programs, which enable laboratories to assess their performance in conducting test methods within their own labs when their data is compared to that of other laboratories.

In addition to ASTM headquarters, training sessions were held at ASTM's Washington, D.C., office, and at ASTM Committee Week in Toronto, Canada. Other site visits were incorporated into the training, as were in-person and web conference meetings with technical experts.

The following standards specialists participated in the intensive training:

  • Tawfik Ibrahim Alirayed, director of construction and building material department, Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization;
  • Zeyad Ali Al-Saadi, standards specialist, Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology; and
  • Fahad Husain Al Hammadi, standards analyst, Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council.
