The team of four University of Pennsylvania students who designed the Titan Arm, a biomechatronic device that can be used to assist mobility and restore lost limb function, was recently awarded the James Dyson Award for design and engineering. Aided in part by an ASTM International Project Grant of $500, the team consulted several ASTM standards while designing the arm. The Titan Arm team includes (from left): Elizabeth Beattie, Nikolay Vladimirov, Nicholas McGill and Nick Parotta. The Titan Arm was featured in the November/December 2013 SN NextGen column.
