WISE Intern

University of Idaho Senior Sponsored by ASTM International

As part of ASTM International's 2011 Jumpstart Your Career campaign, aimed at educating students about the value and importance of standards, ASTM again sponsored an engineering student's participation in the Washington Internships for Students of Engineering program in Washington, D.C.,. During the nine-week program, WISE interns learn about the public policy process, including how government officials make decisions on complex technological issues and how engineers can contribute to legislative and regulatory public policy decisions.

This year's ASTM-sponsored intern, Ashley Vincent, is a senior at the University of Idaho. Vincent prepared a research paper on "The Contribution of Codes and Standards to the Long-Term Viability of Foreign Assistance." Several contacts that Vincent made during her summer in Washington, including ASTM staff, attended her presentation.
