Anchoring Steel Fence and Gate Posts

ASTM International Committee F14 on Fences welcomes participation in the development of a proposed new standard, WK36054, Guide for Anchoring Steel Fence and Gate Posts in Lieu of Concrete Footings. The proposed standard is under the jurisdiction of Subcommittee F14.15 on Other Fence Systems and Components.

According to Ray Statz, chairman, Qual Line Fence Corp., and chairman of F14.15, WK36054 will detail an efficient method for installing drive anchor systems that stabilize fences, flagpoles, sign posts and other vertical elements such as columns.

"WK36054 will detail an efficient method for installing fence posts that eliminates cure time for cement, allow for one-trip installation, reduce disruption and mess at an installation site, prevent frost jacking on concrete and reduce the weight of material to be brought to a job site," says Statz.

Anyone with an interest in fence technology is encouraged to join in the activities of F14.15. In addition to work on WK36054, the subcommittee is in the early stages of planning revisions to another standard under its jurisdiction, F537, Specification for Design, Fabrication and Installation of Fences Constructed of Wood and Related Materials.
