Certification Program Attracting Interest in Advance of Deadline for Women’s Lacrosse Equipment

The Safety Equipment Institute (SEI) certification program with US Lacrosse is now fully operational and has issued its first certifications. The program, which applies to women’s headgear and goggles, requires headgear equipment made after January 1, 2018, to be SEI-certified.

The women’s eyewear certification portion is also operational with a later certification deadline date.

The program certifies headgear and goggles to meet requirements of two key ASTM International standards: the standard specification for headgear used in women’s lacrosse (excluding goalkeepers) (F3137) and the standard specification for eye protectors for women’s lacrosse (F3077), which was recently updated.

“We stand ready to help manufacturers enroll in this program and to work with labs that will perform the testing,” said Patricia Gleason, SEI president.

Ann Carpenetti, vice president of lacrosse operations at US Lacrosse said, “US Lacrosse is committed to player safety, and working with SEI, an industry leader in equipment certification, we can help ensure that the equipment players use reflects safety and quality.”
