ASTM Committee D10 on Packaging has recently approved the latest revision of D3951, Practice for Commercial Packaging, and welcomes participation in its standards developing work.D3951 is under the jurisdiction of Subcommittee D10.25 on Palletizing and Unitizing of Loads.
According to Vickie Edgar, packaging specialist, Defense Logistics Agency, and a D10 member, the latest revisions to D3951 include more in-depth technical requirements and guidance for an end user.
"The additional guidance provides for intermediate and shipping container selection and minimum marking requirements," says Edgar. "Also, the definitive requirements for Department of Defense and its agencies' shipments have been included."
Edgar says that U.S. Department of Defense representatives and other industry personnel are invited to join Commiteee D10 and become involved in its work. Upcoming revisions being considered for future versions of D3951 include adding a guide for selecting preservatives and cushioning applications.
