Fence Privacy Slats
Slats inserted into chain link fences can provide up to 95 percent more privacy and enhance the aesthetic appeal of a fence. A proposed new ASTM International specification will answer the need for better standardization of these privacy slats.
WK36470, Specification for Privacy Slats for Chain Link Fence, is being developed by Subcommittee F14.40 on Chain Link Fence and Wire Accessories, part of ASTM International Committee F14 on Fences.
"Having a standard will provide specifiers and consumers with the information required to make the decision whether to use slats or not by understanding a product's capabilities, such as weather and wind resistance, ultraviolet stability, proper installation, percent of closure and other properties," says Bill Ullrich, principal, Link Consulting LLC, and an F14 member.
WK36470 will address insert slats for specific chain link mesh sizes as well as pre-woven privacy chain slat products. Products covered by the proposed standard are those that provide privacy to residential back yards and pools, enclose dumpsters and air conditioners and provide an additional level of security at schools, parks, junkyards and storage sites, and other locations.
Manufacturers of privacy slats, contractors and other interested parties are invited to join F14 in its standards developing activities.
