Field Pyranometers

While standards exist that address outdoor calibration techniques for solar radiometers, there are currently no general standards that deal with issues of indoor calibration transfers between radiometers of different design. A proposed new ASTM standard, WK27263, Test Method for Indoor Transfer of Calibration from Reference to Field Pyranometers, will address in detail issues associated with intercalibration of different makes and models of radiometry instrumentation.

WK27263 is currently being developed by Subcommittee G03.09 on Radiometry, part of ASTM International Committee G03 on Weathering and Durability.According to Daryl Myers, a senior scientist at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and a G03 member, users of radiometers include those involved in outdoor weathering and solar conversion system performance monitoring. The proposed standard will be useful to such users who are not able to maintain calibration capability.Interested members of the weathering and durability community as well as those working in solar energy conversion are welcome to participate in the ongoing development of WK27263.
