Glass Moisture Testing
ASTM International’s performance of buildings committee (E06) has developed a new test method for moisture in insulating glass.
The test method introduced in this standard, currently known as WK83631, will measure moisture ingress into insulating glass, and allow for predicting window lifetimes. Insulated glass is often used in residential and industrial locations to maintain heat and humidity, as in double-hung windows and skylights.
According to ASTM International member Brian White, the standard will be useful for test labs and insulating glass/window fabricators. It could also play a small part in helping climate change.
“This effort directly relates to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #13 on climate action, as longer lasting and more efficient insulating glass units will mean lower long-term heating and cooling loads, leading to less overall energy usage and reduced CO2 output,” says White.
