January Symposium on Railroad Ballast Testing
ASTM International’s committee on soil and rock (D18) is sponsoring the Symposium on Railroad Ballast Testing and Properties, Jan. 24, 2018, at the Sheraton New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. The symposium will take place in conjunction with the January standards development meetings of the committee.
The symposium will address best practices for field and laboratory ballast testing. The ideas and test methods presented and debated will be used to develop ASTM standards tailed for field representative ballast sampling and laboratory testing.
Field and laboratory testing presentation topics include:
- Ballast Sampling,
- Ballast Sample Reconstitution and Splitting,
- Grain Size Analyses,
- Balls Specific Gravity Testing,
- Atterberg Limits of Fouling Materials,
- Direct Shear Testing,
- Triaxial Compression, and more.
