Katharine Morgan Announced as Keynote Speaker for the 2018 SES Annual Conference
SES - The Society for Standards Professionals (SES) is proud to announce Katharine E. Morgan, president of ASTM International, as the 2018 SES Annual Conference Keynote Speaker. The conference will take place in Nashville, Tennessee, on Aug. 7-8, and her remarks are slated for the morning of Aug. 7.
The theme of the conference is “Dynamic Diversity: Expanding the Future of Standardization” and will bring together standards professionals from around the world to share experiences and best practices in standards development and conformity assessment.
“ASTM International is one of the world’s largest organizations for the development of international voluntary consensus standards and Kathie is a respected leader in the global standards community,” said Edward Miskoski, SES President. “We look forward to sharing with our conference attendees her lessons learned over three decades at ASTM International, as well as her thoughts on the future.”
Morgan began her career at ASTM supervising the standards development work of several technical committees, rising to become a director in 1990. In 2001, she was named general manager of the technical committee support department, overseeing symposia, workshops, international activities, committee services, meeting services, and contract management services. In 2007, Morgan was appointed vice president of Technical Committee Operations where she directed a 50-member team, leading efforts to create, track, evaluate, and adjust strategic business plans. In addition, Morgan helped guide organization-wide policies, finances and partnerships. She assumed the presidency of ASTM International in February 2017.
“It’s an honor to serve as the keynoter for one of the most important gatherings of standards professionals in the world each year,” said Morgan. “Our community is evolving in exciting new ways, as the theme suggests, and I look forward to being part of that dialogue at SES."
Morgan is one of the world’s prominent voices on standardization related issues. In addition to SES, she is a member of the American National Standards Institute’s Board of Directors, the Council of Engineering and Scientific Executives, the International Consumer Product Health and Safety Organization, the American Society of Association Executives, and former member of the Standards Council of Canada’s Standards Development Organization Advisory Committee.
Morgan holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, as well as a master’s in business administration from Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania.
