Liquid Fuels and Lubricants Terminology Standard Revision
ASTM International’s committee on petroleum products, liquid fuels, and lubricants (D02) has recently revised its key terminology standard. The revisions to the standard (D4175) provide guidance to create a more consistent format for writing appropriate definitions for terms related to the liquid fuels and lubricants industry.
According to ASTM member Donna Hoel, the standard’s revisions include the addition of two appendices to the terminology standard. The first of these appendices provides recommendations on how to write definitions based on ASTM’s form and style guide, while the second suggests ways to increase uniformity in definitions created for D02 standards.
“Because our definitions are sometimes specialized, the D02 committee needs agreed upon definitions for any words used in ways that are not commonly understood,” said Hoel. “The appendices will help committee members to write clearer definitions.”
Hoel notes that all interested parties are invited to join the D02 terminology subcommittee to contribute to ongoing revisions to the standard.
