Microbial Decontamination Technology
A proposed standard will help to assess technologies that are used for microbial decontamination of indoor air. ASTM’s committee on pesticides, antimicrobials, and alternative control agents (E35) is developing the proposed standard.
“Indoor air is increasingly being recognized for its ability to spread infections,” says Syed Sattar, an ASTM International member and professor emeritus of microbiology, University of Ottawa. “The current COVID-19 pandemic has heightened this concern. However, there continues to be a dearth of methods and facilities to assess technologies for indoor air decontamination. The proposed standard will address this gap.”
Manufacturers of microbial decontamination products will be the primary users of the proposed standard, but researchers, regulators, public health engineers, and consumers will also benefit from it.
Sattar invites all interested parties to participate in the development of the proposed standard (WK70106). “The scope of this guide is wide and an input from a variety of experts will benefit it in moving forward,” says Sattar. JOIN ASTM.
