New Cannabis Subcommittee on Sustainability

ASTM International’s cannabis committee (D37) has formed a new subcommittee on sustainability. The new subcommittee seeks to develop sustainability standards tied to key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to help the cannabis industry be more efficient, transparent, and well-regulated.

Subcommittee standards activity will include promoting measurement, reporting, and improvements made toward sustainability goals and promoting reporting through the supply chain and across the lifecycle of all cannabis products.

“The cannabis industry is at a tipping point when it comes to sustainability, and incorporating not only environmental but also social and corporate governance into a business is critical,” said Jennifer Rumble, director of communications for Sustainable Cannabis Coalition. “Together this subcommittee will work to develop standards for a cleaner and more equitable future.”

The subcommittee will hold its first meeting on Friday, November 5, 2021, to be held virtually. ASTM welcomes domestic and international participation in the development of its standards. JOIN ASTM.
