New Standard Promotes Safety in Infant Floor Seats
ASTM International’s committee on consumer products (F15) has approved a new standard that provides requirements and test methods aimed at ensuring adequate performance of infant floor seats.
The standard (soon to be published as F3317) was developed to keep pace with the innovative and popular category of children’s products. It is intended to minimize injuries to children resulting from normal usage and foreseeable misuse or abuse of infant floor seats.
ASTM International member Anthony Paolo, president of Credo Advisors, notes that the standard has several safety-related requirements, with the most important being occupant retention. It will also come with a strict and easy-to-understand warning label to ensure consumers are using the product properly.
“This effort demonstrates that we all work best when we work together with the common goal of improving safety for our society’s most precious, cherished, and vulnerable members – our children,” says Paolo.
