New Standard Will Help in Setup of Forensic Audio Labs
A new ASTM International standard will help any organization that needs to create a forensic audio laboratory space. The standard (E3150), developed by ASTM’s committee on forensic sciences (E30), provides general guidance for laboratory setup and maintenance of equipment.
The new standard provides recommendations for creating a forensic audio laboratory, as well as configuration, verification, and maintenance of equipment contained within the lab.
The new standard is the first of three planned ASTM forensic audio standards, developed by the subcommittee on digital and multimedia evidence (E30.12), in conjunction with the Scientific Working Group on Digital Evidence (SWGDE) and the digital evidence subcommittee of the Organization of Scientific Area Committees (OSAC).
The proposed standards will cover repair and recovery of damaged audio media and forensic audio examination workflow. Individuals with experience in performing forensic audio examinations are welcome to participate in the development of these standards.
