Oxygen Removal Cartridges

A proposed new ASTM International standard will provide the first comprehensive approach to analyzing oxygen removal cartridges. WK39806, Practice for the Capacity of Ion Exchange Oxygen Removal Cartridge, is being developed by Subcommittee D19.08 on Membranes and Ion Exchange Materials, part of ASTM International Committee D19 on Water.

WK39806 will help determine the exchange capacity of an ion exchange oxygen removal cartridge used to remove dissolved oxygen from water.

"Oxygen removal cartridges are used in critical applications in which the technology calls for low oxygen levels in deionized water," says G. Taylor Smith, president, Ionex Technologies, and a D19 member. "There are several different manufacturers of these cartridges, and, in order to evaluate the best product, a standard practice must be developed."

All interested parties are invited to join in the standards developing activities of D19.08. The subcommittee oversees standards pertaining to ion exchange resins, as well as powder and EDM. D19.08 also handles membrane products used with water treatment. This includes reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, ultrafiltration and membrane filters, all of which are ubiquitous in many current technologies..
