Papers Invited for Symposium on Safety in Ice Hockey

Papers are invited for the Sixth International Symposium on Safety in Ice Hockey, May 12-13, 2019, at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel, Colorado, USA. The symposium is sponsored by ASTM International’s committee on sports equipment, playing surfaces, and facilities (F08) in cooperation with the Hockey Equipment Certification Council (HECC) and USA Hockey. The symposium will be held in conjunction with the May standards development meetings of the committee.

The objective of the symposium is to review the current state of the art and science of prevention of ice hockey injuries. Topics include but are not limited to:

·   Studies on specific injuries in ice hockey and ways to decrease the risk for these injuries,

·   Studies on rink safety and problems related to the operation of rinks,

·   Research in concussions (minimal traumatic brain injuries or MTBI),

·   Studies on new protective equipment,

·   Studies on coaching techniques to decrease the risk for injuries, and more.

To participate in the symposium, authors must submit a 250-300 word preliminary abstract no later than May, 18, 2018. The abstract must include a clear definition of the objective and approach of the work discussed, pointing out material that is new, and present sufficient details regarding results. The presentation and manuscript must not be of a commercial nature nor can it have been previously published. Because a limited number of abstracts will be accepted, be sure that the abstract is complete to allow for careful assessment of the paper's suitability for this symposium. The symposium co-chairs will notify you via postal mail by July 20, 2018, of your paper’s acceptability for presentation at the symposium.

Abstract submission questions can be directed to Tessa Sulkes (see below). For technical information, or questions, contact symposium co-chairs Terry A. Smith (tas@dynres.com), or Alan Ashare (alan.ashare.md@steward.org).
