Participants Needed to Develop Adult Scooter Standard

ASTM International’s consumer products committee (F15) invites all interested parties to join its subcommittee on powered scooters and skateboards as it further develops a proposed standard on electric-powered scooters for adults.

According to ASTM International member David Dick, senior technical engineer, Bureau Veritas, the proposed standard (WK70724) could cover the establishment of performance requirements and corresponding test methods used to minimize the hazards of commercial electric-powered scooters for adults.

Manufacturers of scooters, local regulatory bodies, and ride-share companies could potentially use the proposed standard, according to Dick.

Dick says the proposed e-scooter standard will focus on:

  • Rider safety;
  • Reduced repair;
  • Greater durability;
  • Fewer incidents;
  • Failure detection.

ASTM welcomes participation in the development of its standards.
