Petroleum Committee Seeks Participants to Develop Cetane Test Method
ASTM International Committee D02 on Petroleum Products, Liquid Fuels, and Lubricants is welcoming participants to create the first constant volume combustion chamber test method that would measure the generic cetane number of diesel fuels (WK55849, Test Method for Determination of Generic Cetane Number (G-CN) of Diesel Fuel Oils Using a Constant Volume Combustion Chamber Primary Reference Fuels Calibration (PRFC) Method).
This new standard is aimed at determining the cetane number of both conventional diesel fuel oils as well as diesel fuels oils that contain additives used to improve the cetane number. The proposed test method would be automated, using a carousel and auto sampler that allows unattended operation, thus saving operator time and money.
The proposed standard has the potential to be used by testing and research laboratories, diesel fuel manufacturers, regulatory bodies, car and engine manufacturers, and universities.
ASTM welcomes participation in the development of its standards. Become a member at www.astm.org/JOIN.
