Sewer Basins and Fittings

Although poly(vinyl choride) gasketed sewer basins are currently being produced and supplied to the storm drainage market, there are not currently minimum requirements users can refer to for a purchase. A proposed new ASTM International standard will provide these requirements.

WK32336, Specification for Poly(Vinyl Chloride) (PVC) Gasketed Sanitary and Storm Drainage Sewer Basins and Fittings, is being developed by Subcommittee F17.10 on Fittings, part of ASTM International Committee F17 on Plastic Piping Systems.

"As the size of these basins increases, it becomes imperative that uniform standards for manufacturing and design be developed to ensure their safe, long-term functioning," says John Kurdziel, director of technical services and market development, Advanced Drainage Systems Inc., and chairman of the task group developing WK32336.

"For a specific application, users need to have confidence that the product they are purchasing meets minimum requirements for watertightness and structural integrity," says Kurdziel. "The products must also maintain sufficient manufacturing tolerances to enable proper and easy connection of these fabricated units to pipelines."
