Textile Terminology

ASTM International’s committee on textiles (D13) is developing a proposed standard for writing terminology in textile standards.

“This practice is intended to address the importance of a ‘critical building block’ that is used to develop and construct a standard that has value and utility for many years,” says ASTM International member Vince Diaz. “If the terminology is vague or ambiguous, the standard loses its relevance.”

If approved, the new practice (WK82981) will be added to the committee’s library of documents related to terminology. Diaz notes that “the practice is intended to help committee members to clearly indicate a term’s relevance by accurately defining what the term means.”
