Thermometers Containing Petroleum Products
ASTM International’s petroleum products, liquid fuels, and lubricants committee (D02) has proposed a revision to its 2019 standard, (D287), a test method affecting use of thermometers containing petroleum products.
This essential update of the standard advances efforts to update the procedures, reporting, and more associated with hydrometers and digital contact thermometers. According to ASTM International member Manuel Atencio, the revision will be useful to measurement technicians, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders in exchange and verification of petroleum products.
“This revision added clear procedure as to how, where and when temperature was to be determined, which was critical now that two additional temperature instruments have been added,” says Atencio. “Also, its annexes address fit-for-use, verification performance criteria, and calibration criteria for the instruments used in this standard, which were missing.”
Atencio thanks Peter Kosewicz and the rest of the working group for their contributions to this standard.
